About the Deseret Alphabet.
At the end of the 1850s with great numbers of people from Europe coming into the Salt Lake valley, Brigham Young decided to use a phonetic alphabet. This is the alphabet that a Mr. Wills and Parly P. Pratt devised. From 1858 until the project was abandoned in 1869, several school readers and the Book of Mormon, as well as some of the Deseret News, were printed in this alphabet. This font was done for the historical department of the church and is free to anyone who wants it.
